About the conference

XRD and XRF spectrometry are chemical analysis techniques with a wide use in industry and scientific research. Particularly developments of smaller size instruments such as bench top and handheld (HH) instruments have increased the use of this techniques within recycling, environmental analysis and art and archaeology. The green shift including circular economy principles along with an increased digital transformation also provides new exciting opportunities.

The aim of the Norwegian X-ray conference is to bring together industrial and academic experts and users of XRD and XRF in Scandinavia with manufacturers and suppliers of analysis instruments, preparation equipment, reference materials and other chemicals. We have a special focus on new technology and markets, specifically on handheld (HH), benchtop and on-line ED-XRF applications. We are part of the Norwegian Chemical Society. The objective of the society to prommote the interest and understanding of chemistry and and chemical technology with respect to teaching and researc. The Norwegian X-Ray Conference was first put together as a seminar in 1980 by the founder Åge Storm.

For suppliers this conference is an excellent opportunity to showcase and introduce your products and services, and users will be able to exchange their experiences with producers and suppliers and learn about new developments in the field.

Users, researchers and suppliers are welcome to submit oral or poster presentations in related topics as mentioned above. We always have a minimum of three invited speakers for in-depth lectures on XRF and XRD topics.

The conference normally takes place biannually Monday to Wednesday early September in even years. We start the program after lunch the first day, and end the conference with lunch Wednesday. In 2022 we have started offering a short in-depth course in a hot topic Monday morning.

Participants enjoy a seated dinner together every evening. Monday afternoon you can participate in a volunteer social excursion. Tuesday evening we gather for the conference dinner where all our speakers receive a special recognition.

Siv Hjort Dundas summarized the 2018 conference in an article.
