Elena Plataina

Conservation Scientist - Norwegian Institute for Cultural Heritage research (NIKU)

Elena Platania is researcher II and conservation scientist at NIKU.

Her main area of work is the analysis and identification of paint materials (pigments, natural organic dyes and lacquers) with spectroscopic techniques (Raman, FTIR). She also has experience with SEM-EDX, XRF and light microscopy.

Elena has previously worked at the University of Oslo, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the University of Florence. She has experience with the analysis of late medieval paintings, polychrome sculptures and old textiles.

Elena has a PhD in Conservation Science from the University of Florence in 2014.
